Both the Apple iPhone 4S and the Motorola Atrix 2 are quad-band devices. The Apple iPhone 4S supports both CDMA and GSM systems in one device. The Motorola Atrix 2 weighs 147g and the iPhone 4S weighs 140g.

The Motorola Atrix 2 displays 540 x 960 pixels onto a 4.3-inch screen and the Apple iPhone 4S displays 640 x 960 pixels onto a 3.5-inch screen. Although still on one of smallest screens in this age of touchscreen phones, the Apple iPhone 4S appears to have the better resolution from these specifications.

The Motorola Atrix 2 uses a 1 GHz dual-core processor to drive Android OS 2.3 (Gingerbread). The Apple iPhone 4S uses a dual-core 1 GHz A5 processor to drive iOS 5.

The Apple iPhone 4S and the Motorola Atrix 2 both have an 8-megapixel main camera. Both devices also have a front-facing camera. Both the Motorola Atrix 2 and the Apple iPhone 4S record video at a maximum of 1920x1080 (1080p HD).

The Apple iPhone 4S comes in 16, 32 and 64GB versions and the Motorola Atrix 2 comes in an 8GB version. The Motorola Atrix 2 can accept microSD cards of up to 32 GBs.

There has not been a price announcement for the Motorola Atrix 2 at the time of writing. However, the specifications for the Motorola Atrix 2 are nothing to shout about and we expect the Motorola Atrix 2 to go on sale at about RM 1600 to be competitive.

That would make the Motorola Atrix 2 about half the price of the Apple iPhone 4S. The specifications for both devices are about the closest we have ever seen in an iOS vs Andropid comparison, and the price of the Apple iPhone 4S shows how strong the Apple brand is. Whether you will pay for it is something you will have to ask yourself.

iPhone 4S Price (RM 3200+ unofficial)

The iPhone 4S is a world phone which supports both GSM and CDMA connections. The iPhone 4S will come in three variants, the brand new 64GB ($499), 32GB ($299), and 16GB ($199), and it will come in black and white. The pricing is the same as for the iPhone 4 last year.

Its exterior is similar to the iPhone 4, but the phone gets the A5 dual-core processor, which Apple claims will be able to run graphics seven times faster than its predecessor. Last year's antenna issue is also addressed, the iPhone's steel band is able to 'intelligently' switch between antenna's for improve call quality.

Other  iPhone 4S exclusives, is the Siri voice recognition system, for example you ask Siri a question example "Do I need a raincoat today?" Siri will try and make sense of it and responds "It sure looks like rain today." Other examples include "What is the time in Kuala Lumpur?" Siri will then show you the world clock. Yes it comes with iOS 5, but only 4S users will be able to enjoy it.

There is also an upgraded 8-megapixel camera, the sensor gets an upgrade too with something called backlight illumination, and an image signal processor that enables face detection and 26 percent improved white balance. And it will take 1.1 seconds to take the first shot, and half a second for the next. 1080p video recording is supported too.

The battery is still able to handle the dual-core processor with 8 hours of talk time, 14 hours of 2g talk time, 6 hours of 3g browsing, 9 hours of WiFi browsing. The 4S will have 14.4 HSPA + downlink, an improvement over the iPhone 4's 7.2 Mpbs.

Motorola Atrix 2 (no price yet)

The Motorola Atrix 2 has a 4.3-inch qHD display with 540 x 960 resolution pixels. Powering the Motorola Atrix 2 is a 1.0GHz dual-core processor coupled with 1GB RAM. The Atrix 2 is running on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread).

The Atrix 2 supports all common connectivity options including HSDPA 21.1Mbps, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1 and GPS. It has an 8GB internal storage and support microSD cards up to 40GB.

In addition, the Atrix 2 comes with an 8-megapixel main shutter with LED flash and a front facing VGA camera. The main camera has the capability of recording 1080p full HD video.

The Motorola Atrix 2 will be available in the United States starting in mid-October, with subsequent launches planned for China, Asia, Middle East and Latin America.
